Parking Information

Extracted from the ‘Official Guide’

The following is a brief guide to parking within designated parking places in Guernsey.

These can be divided into disc parks and approved parking places. Full details of the actual law can be obtained by reference to the Road Traffic (Parking Places) Ordinance, 1963, as amended and the current Parking Places Order.

 

Approved Parking Places

 

These are identified by a blue sign bearing the words ‘Approved Parking’ and the time restrictions.

Both motor vehicles and motorcycles can park within these area’s and there is no requirement to set a parking disc. Parking is limited to any continuous 23 hour period between midnight of any day and midnight the next day.

 

Disc Parking Places

 

These are identified by a blue sign, bearing the words ‘Disc Zone’ and which defines the limit of the parking place and permitted parking times.

 

Please ask if you require a parking clock and we can provide you with one, we just ask for a £5 deposit.

 

  1. Disc parks remain in force twenty four hours a day, not just between 8am and 6pm. [between 6pm-8am the time is not limited ]

 

  1. The parking disc must be set at the time you park your vehicle, whatever time of day or night. i.e. if you park at 2am, you must set your disc to 2am. It is an offence to set your disc at an incorrect time of arrival or to fail to set the disc.

 

  1. The time limit for that particular disc parking place, starts from the time you parked your vehicle. If that parking time limit ends between 8am and 6pm, you must not park for longer than the specified time for that parking place. i.e. If you park in a 2 hour disc park at 7am, you must set your disc to 7am. The 2 hour period ends at 9am, as this is between 8am and 6pm you must move your vehicle by 9am. If you parked in the same disc parking place at 5pm, you must set your disc to 5pm. As the 2 hour time limit ends at 7pm, which is not between 8am and 6pm, you may park until 8am the following morning, by which time you must move your vehicle

 

  1. At the end of the permitted period, the vehicle must be moved and may not be re-parked in the same disc parking place for at least 30 minutes.

 

  1. Having parked and set your disc, it is an offence to return to your vehicle and alter the disc, having not removed the vehicle from the disc parking place as at 4 above

 

  1. A solo motorcycle may not be parked in a disc parking place.
